Why BECOME A SCHOLAR?

What will you learn?

  • Be a part of a cohort of participants from different health profession fields.
  • Interact with other AHEC Scholars across Alabama.
  • Engage in activities that complement your current academic program.
  • Serve in rural and/or underserved communities.
  • Receive a $1,000 stipend for your two-year commitment.
  • The program is FREE
  • Be enrolled in an Alabama college-level health professions training program of at least two years in length by September 30, 2023
  • Be a health professions student of an approved program (see list below)
  • Commit to a two-year AHEC Scholars activity agenda

 
  • Cutting edge curriculum designed with 8 core topics that are critical for our future workforce
    -Interprofessional Education (IPE) or Team-Based Training
    -Behavioral Health
    -Social Determinants of Health
    -Cultural Competency as part of Patient-Centered Care
    -Practice Transformation
    -Current and Emerging Health Issues 
     - Connecting Communities and  Supporting Health Professionals 
     -Virtual Learning and Telehealth
  • Clinical training experiences are interprofessional.
  • Scholars will train with at least one other healthcare discipline to be better prepared to enter the workforce as part of a team.
  • Participants will receive 40 hours of training (both clinical and didactic for a total of 80 hours) each year of the program.
